Either way, the need for a good sourceofbackgroundmaterialinordertoappreciatetheresearchpresentedina paperbecameapparenttomeandwastheinspirationfordevelopingthisbook. Thegoalinbringingthisbookwastoprovidestudentswithareviewofrecent developmentsinspeci?careasofcurrentinterestinsignaltransduction,suf?ciently indepthtomakerecentresearchpublicationsaccessible. However,giventhewide rangeofresearchtopicsbeinginvestigatedtodayinsignaling,achoicehadtobe madetofocusonaselectfew. Thischoicewasmadenotonlykeepingthecurrent research interest in mind, but also with the anticipation that these areas will continuetobeofinterestoverthenextseveralyears.
