From the Idyll to the Novel: Karamzins Sentimentalist Prose Karamzin was the foremost Russian representative of the late eighteenth-century Sentimentalist literature. In this study, Gitta Hammarberg makes use of advances in literary theory (particularly Bakhtin-school theory) in order to develop a theory of Sentimentalist literature. She applies this to Karamzins prose fiction, paying particular attention to the role of the author-reader.
